Vomiting symptoms

As mentioned, a patient will usually throw up the stomach contents, and it includes nausea. Along with vomiting, there may be other symptoms like –

  • Pain in the abdomen
  • Fever
  • Lightheadedness
  • Rapid change in pulse rate
  • Dry mouth
  • Issues with urination
  • Sweating
  • Confusion

The condition depends on the underlying cause, which can be anything from Pancreatitis and liver issues to kidney problems and peptic ulcers.

How to treat vomiting?

Sudden vomiting and mild nausea usually goes on its own, especially with upset stomach and cases of motion or sea sickness. It is essential to stay hydrated and avoid all kinds of strong smells. If you have stomach pain, make sure to stick to bland and boiled food, before you see the doctor. If you have vomiting due motion sickness, there are OTC pills available for quick relief, which can be carried for every trip. Doctors typically use a number of drugs, depending on the root cause, and it is advisable to prescription medications without medical attention.

Should I see a doctor?

If you have vomiting and nausea, you should consult a doctor immediately when you have other symptoms like

  • Pain in chest or stomach
  • Fainting, confusion
  • Pale skin
  • Fever
  • Loose motions

Parents should be extra careful with kids below 6 years of age. Even with mild nausea and limited vomiting, it is best to see a doctor. Also, no matter the age, vomiting should be ignored, especially if you have thrown up more than thrice in a day.

How to avoid vomiting?

Opt for fruit juices (excluding the acidic ones) or sodas in limited amounts or in small sips to ease the nausea. Rest is more than important if you have experienced sudden vomiting. If you have motion sickness, always keep medicines handy at all times. Avoid exertion, especially during the summer.
